Queensland free training offer

Thanks to Queensland Government funding, Queensland-based practitioners and agencies who provide parenting and family support services at no direct cost to Queensland families can now access free Triple P training, resources and implementation support.

Practitioners can gain professional development in a wide variety of Triple P programs to meet their community’s needs and match their service delivery model. Triple P includes programs with individual sessions, one-off small or large groups, or more intensive multi-week programs delivered in groups or individually.

All training is designed for a multi-disciplinary audience working with parents and carers in a professional capacity, including:

  • allied health professionals (e.g., psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists)
  • nurses
  • general practitioners
  • social services workers
  • First Nations health and family support workers
  • early childhood educators.

Participating organisations are supported by a Triple P Implementation Consultant (IC) to develop a tailored implementation plan for organisations, teams, communities, and families. This helps Triple P be integrated into the usual services and support provided by partner organisations. Indigenous ICs are available to help agencies deliver Triple P in culturally-informed ways.

About the program

The Triple P – Positive Parenting Program® is an evidence-based program, designed to help parents support children and young people’s healthy development and emotional wellbeing.

Triple P is one of the world’s most well-known and proven multi-level systems of parenting support that offers a range of low to intense programs to suit every family’s needs.

Triple P can be incorporated into a practitioner’s work whether the focus is:

  • enhancing parent-child relationships and general parenting
  • preventing problems from developing
  • providing early intervention for identified concerns or issues
  • working intensively with parents and families to address complex child behavioural and emotional concerns.

Triple P interventions can be of particular benefit to those working with vulnerable and complex families and offer safe and effective tools to use as part of trauma-informed and attachment approaches.

In addition to the core courses for families with children up to 12 years, there are specific courses for practitioners working with parents of teens, First Nations families as well as families with children with disabilities, anxiety and more.

Developed locally at The University of Queensland, the programs are supported by decades of research, with Queensland Government funding professional development for Queensland practitioners since mid-2015.

About the training

Triple P’s courses provide high-quality professional learning to help practitioners engage positively and effectively with parents about their children’s social and emotional wellbeing.

The training programs are combined with implementation support and resources to support effective delivery of the program with families.

Now available face-to-face or online via Zoom, Triple P training courses blend lecture-style and experiential learning modules.

The training process includes didactic instruction, modelling by the trainer, video examples of discrete skills, small-group exercises for active skills practice and group discussions of key issues.

Training courses provide participants with, but not limited to:

  • Core principles of positive parenting
  • Proven, practical strategies for promoting children’s development
  • Early detection and effective responses to guide children’s behaviour
  • Strategies for conducting effective consultations with parents

  • Skills to address common process issues when working with parents.

All professional development courses are conducted by accredited Triple P trainers holding a minimum qualification of master’s or equivalent in education or clinical psychology.
